Simon began to indulge his two hobbies, wine and writing in 1988. In the past decade he has been coordinator of the annual International Wine Challenge, columnist for The Financial Times, The Business Magazine and five-times editor of the award-winning annual ‘Which? Wine Guide’.

A frequent contributor to several magazines, including Wine International, BBC Good Food and Square Meal, his 2003 book, 'I don't know much about wine but I know what I like' received the Gold Label Award for Wine Book of the Year at the 2004 Prix du Champagne Lanson awards. His previous book, 'Vine to Bottle', was chosen as the Best Book on Wine in English at the 2001 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Simon is a regular presenter on both radio and television and is a regular host of public wine tastings.
