Robert founded Wine International Magazine over 20 years ago together with Charles Metcalfe and was publishing editor until 2005. Apart from his regular contributions to Wine International Magazine and numerous other international titles, Robert was also the wine correspondent for the Sunday Telegraph for sixteen years. He is currently editor-at-large of Meininger’s Wine Business International magazine and writes wine features for newspapers such as the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph.
A prolific author, Robert has written over 27 books on wine, including, ‘The Complete Encyclopedia of Wine’, ‘French Wines’, ‘Bordeaux and its Wines’, ‘The Wine Travel Guide to the World’, and the ‘Robert Joseph Good Wine Guide’.
Among the awards he has won for wine writing are the Glenfiddich (twice), The Wine Guild of the United Kingdom Premier Award and the Marques de Caceres. He is a Chevalier de Tastevin and a member of the Commanderie du Bontemps du Médoc et des Graves in Bordeaux.
Robert has launched Wine Challenges in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Russia, India, Vietnam and Thailand and has chaired or judged at wine competitions in Portugal, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the US. He is co-founder with Charles Metcalfe of the International Wine Challenge, which is now the world’s largest tasting competition. He is currently chair of the India Wine Challenge, held in November.
Robert Joseph regularly appears on television and radio in the UK and overseas to talk about wine. He is also a keynote public speaker at international wine trade conferences and events and hosts regular tastings for private groups.
Robert is now producing his own wines with flying winemaker Hugh Ryman and label designer Kevin Shaw.
